Figure 1: THALETEC AgiJet agitating nozzle, fitted into a jacket nozzle of a glass-lined vessel

Better heat transfer with AgiJet agitating nozzles

Agitating nozzles are fitted into the feed nozzles of the double jacket of the glass-lined apparatus. They provide an optimum flow pattern (spiral flow) in the jacket space during heating and/or cooling of the tank with liquids (e.g. heat transfer oil, water or salt water). With an average speed of approx. 1 m/s the agitating nozzles ensure good heat transfer on the jacketed side (Figure 1).

This is a result of an outlet velocity of the heat transfer medium of up to 12 m/sec and an acceleration of the flow in the jacket space by up to 4 times the normal pipe flow. The nozzle mouth of the AgiJet agitating nozzle was optimised by conducting a series of tests and even in continuous operation exhibits minimal wear and low susceptibility for cavitation (Figure 2).

The AgiJet 50 agitating nozzles from THALETEC are optimised for flow engineering, ensuring an optimum spiral flow in the jacket space and at the same time protecting the glass-lined tank from thermal damage.

AgiJet agitating nozzles are standardised in the nominal diameter of DN 50 for glass-lined vessels up to 25,000 nominal capacity and are suitable, inter alia, for jacket nozzles according to DIN 28151. Special configurations are also possible at any time. Thus the AgitJet agitating nozzles can also be used for equipment from other manufacturers.

You will find additional technical details on the THALETEC AgiJet agitating nozzles in flyer K062.

New configuration can be customised on-site

It has been shown that it is useful if the length of the agitating nozzles can be simply and quickly adjusted to the installation situation in order to be suitable for the various installation situations.

Therefore THALETEC has now included a new design of the agitating nozzles called "AgiJet flex" in its programme (Figure 3).

In this version the nozzle head is connected to the companion flange via a thread.

The thread allows the length of the agitating nozzle to be adjusted in the range of about 25 mm and thus simply adjusted to the length of the jacket nozzle on site.

Furthermore, the thread makes it possible to influence the direction of flow of the heat transfer medium by the appropriate positioning of the nozzle opening.

Thus it has been shown that in the case of reactors which work with partial filling, the agitating nozzle would be better angled downwards in order to speed up the flow in the jacket space, particularly in the lower part of the tank.

If you also want to speed up heating and cooling in your glass-lined equipment, please contact THALETEC. We would be pleased to offer you the optimum agitating nozzles - and also to exchange agitating nozzles from other manufacturers.
